Renowned author Michael Meyer discusses 'A Dirty, Filthy Book' in online event.
The National Secular Society held an online talk on Wednesday with the author of a new biography about one the NSS's leading figures.
Critically acclaimed author and journalist Michael Meyer joined the NSS to discuss A Dirty, Filthy Book: Sex, Scandal and One Woman's Fight in the Victorian Trial of the Century, which was published earlier this year.
The book follows the life of Annie Besant, who was vice president of the NSS during its earliest years in the 19th century. It focuses particularly on her trial for obscenity for publishing a birth control manual.
Meyer was joined by NSS council member and historian Robert Forder to discuss the book, Besant's extraordinary life, and why her campaigns are still relevant to secularists today.
You can watch a recording of the talk here:
We would like to thank Michael and Robert for their fascinating discussion, and everyone who tuned in to listen and ask questions.
