Parents' decisions to send their children to distant faith schools where there are suitable schools shouldn't be subsidised. In some areas children from the 'correct' faith background get their travel entirely subsidised, while children from non-religious (or the 'wrong' religious backgrounds) aren't even allowed on the bus, or have to pay.
We call on local councils to:
- Stop unnecessary discretionary spending on faith school transport
- Remove any discrimination from school transport policies
We call on the Government(s) of the UK to:
- Repeal Equality Act provisions which protect discrimination in faith school transport
- Repeal requirements for councils to subsidise travel to distant faith schools
