NSS raises concerns with regulator after Christianity charity suggests gay marriage will 'destroy the world'

via Facebook

The National Secular Society has reported a newly registered Christian charity to the regulator after it compared gay marriage to 'acting like demons'.

Manchester based C&S Akobi Olorun Restoration Ministry UK registered under the charitable purpose 'the advancement of religion' in March. Charities are legally required to act for the public benefit.

In a 2023 post on its Facebook page, the charity's chair of trustees 'Reverend Mother' Opeyemi Sobogun (pictured) claims gay marriage "must not be accepted anywhere in the world".

Her post states: "If you are gay and you would like to marry gay partner doesn't mean you should push others into hell fire 🔥 with you. You just acted like a DEMON. This must not be accepted anywhere in the world."

"Why would you approve same sex couple? Do you want to destroy this world?", she adds.

"God gave Adam(Male) Eve(Female) because that's what he need. He never created two men to marry each other in other to produce children! Why are you people so anxious to experience God anger in all ways?"

In response to the NSS's concerns, the Charity Commission provided the charity with "advice and guidance". Despite this, the Facebook post remains up.

Religious charities promoting homophobia

The NSS has raised concerns about numerous religious charities promoting homophobia in recent years.

Forward in Faith Church International (FIFCI) described the exorcism of a man possessed by a "homosexual spirit" as a "miracle".

Core Issues Trust, a Christian charity in Northern Ireland, is dedicated to gay 'conversion therapy'.

A trustee of Carryduff Free Presbyterian Church compared gay marriage to bestiality, and claimed homosexuality is "unnatural" and "rooted in lust not love".

Regulators declined to take action in all three cases.

NSS: 'Religious charities allowed to promote homophobia with impunity'

National Secular Society spokesperson Alejandro Sanchez said: "This is just the latest example of a religious charity spreading vicious homophobia. Any suggestion it is acting in the public benefit is utterly farcical.

"Religious charities are being allowed to promote homophobia with impunity. The charitable purpose 'the advancement of religion' must be urgently reviewed."
