Free Mubarak Bala
Mubarak Bala, president of the Humanist Association of Nigeria, was arrested in April for 'blasphemy' after allegedly insulting the Islamic prophet Muhammad on Facebook. 'Apostasy' and 'blasphemy' are prohibited by law and punishable by death in Nigeria. Furthermore, serious and credible death threats have been made against Bala. There are therefore grave concerns for Bala's safety and well-being.
Please ask your MP to urge Rehman Chishti (Special Envoy for Freedom of Religion or Belief) and the Foreign & Commonwealth Office to assist in securing the safe release of Mubarak Bala.
