Dr David Starkey is one of the UK's best-known historians and a Bye Fellow at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge.

He specialises in the Tudor period, about which he has both written many books and presented TV series, including the acclaimed documentaries on Elizabeth I and Henry VIII. One of his recent books on the period is Henry VIII: The Mind of a Tyrant. He has also been on BBC4's The Moral Maze. He has recently published Kate and William: Romance and the Royals.

He is a prominent campaigner for gay and lesbian rights.
