Why has Newsline changed?
The new look for Newsline forms part of a general review of how we communicate our message to members and supporters. The previous format simply contained too much text. Some subscribers described this as "daunting", "off-putting", and "overwhelming". In the fast-paced information age it is unreasonable to expect the average subscriber to spend time reading through the whole email. The significant amount of text in the previous format also resulted in formatting problems, difficulties with delivery and unnecessary duplication of work and resources for NSS staff and volunteers.
We have therefore created a more concise email, with headlines, a story overview and links to read the full story on our website. The new format is more browsable and offers readers an opportunity to prioritise articles of most interest to them.
While we hope the majority of subscribers will appreciate the new format, we understand some will prefer things the way they were. For the reasons stated above, not changing Newsline was simply not an option. However, we will continue to create a full and printable version of Newsline – which will be available on the new-look Newsline email with just one click. This will also be available on the website, along with previous editions, in the Newsline archive.
We'd love to hear what you think of the new-look Newsline, or if you have any ideas for improvement.
