New Atheist Education Pack Launched
A new education resource aimed at Key Stage 3 – 5 has been produced to introduce pupils to “issues of secular philosophies”. Entitled Why Atheism? it comprises a DVD with “six films about people who do not believe in God” and worksheets for students and teachers.
The six films consist mostly of talking heads – the first being a collection of students who explain their atheism and what led them to it. Then former Muslims, Hindus and Christians explain why they abandoned religion. There is a film is about being raised in Belfast, and living with the religious conflict there. Another film explores the concept of non-religious ceremonies, and this is followed by an extended interview with NSS honorary associate Philip Pullman. There is also a debate among Catholic students who are asked to defend their beliefs.
We will feature a longer review of this resource in a forthcoming Newsline.
