Lorraine Barrett is Labour and Co-operative Member of the Welsh Assembly for Cardiff South and Penarth. She is also a member of the Transport and General Workers Union and chairs the All-Party Group on Animal Welfare and the Co-operative Party Group within the Assembly. Lorraine Barrett, who is also known as the unofficial Assembly atheist, was recently instrumental in having the official Assembly welcome to Luis Palau the American evangelist withdrawn. She has also spoken out strongly against more faith schools in Wales.

The fact that this case was won while another case – that of 16- year old Lydia Playfoot and her claim in 2007 to want to wear a “chastity ring” in school – was thrown out of court seems in itself to be discriminatory.
