Important Women’s Day meeting this week
To commemorate the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day, the Council of Ex-Muslims of Britain and Equal Rights Now, an organisation for women's rights in Iran, are holding a seminar, Sexual apartheid, political Islam and women's rights at Conway Hall on Monday 10 March from 6:30-9:30pm. The Council of Ex-Muslims will also be launching its “No to Sharia” campaign at the same event.
Nothing could be more topical or more important, and there is a galaxy of star speakers to inform the evening. They include Mina Ahadi, who is spokesperson for the Council of Ex-Muslims of Germany and Equal Rights Now and the National Secular Society’s Secularist of the Year award winner for 2007.

The police must act against a Christian group using intimidation and bullying against bookshops and artists to attempt censorship of what it considers ‘blasphemous’ art, says the National Secular Society.
Secularists are calling on the Education Secretary, Ed Balls, to crack down hard on the teaching of creationism in schools. The call comes in the light of a new survey from Teachers TV showing that 30% of teachers support the idea of creationism being given equivalent status to evolution.
